What To Expect After Dermal Fillers

Restylane is the world’s best-selling dermal filler. It is a cosmetic dermal filler made of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that already exists in the human body. Restylane maintains its shape using the body’s own moisture. As hyaluronic acid gradually degrades, each molecule binds to more water and, over time, the same volume can be maintained with less hyaluronic acid. This ability of hyaluronic acid to bind to water is what helps provide lasting results. Although slightly more expensive than collagen, Restylane can last anywhere from 2 to 4 times longer. Most patients tolerate the injections quite well. Many fillers are now formulated with lidocaine, a local anesthetic that helps minimize discomfort during treatments. We can also apply a local anesthetic cream to the treatment area to create a more comfortable experience. This is typical for lip injections, for example, because the lips are especially sensitive.
Yes. Most patients are quite satisfied after getting fillers, but occasionally the outcome is different than what a patient expected. In such a case, Dr. Mariotti injects an enzyme called hyaluronidase directly into the treatment area, which rapidly breaks down the hyaluronic acid filler used.
It’s important to note that hyaluronic acid-based fillers, such as JUVÉDERM, are the only ones with a reversal enzyme. RADIESSE and Sculptra have a different chemical composition, so they cannot be dissolved in the same manner.
