The Importance of Implant Massage
_
After breast augmentation, massaging your new breast implants can be a vital part of the healing process. Careful, appropriate massage can aid in a few different ways:
- Encouraging the implants to drop and settle into place
- Maintaining the softness of implants
- Reducing the risk of certain complications, such as capsular contracture
Implant massage is especially important within the first few weeks after surgery, but Dr. Mariotti may give you specialized instructions for massage after the 3-week mark.
Not all breast augmentation patients should massage, however. Women with textured implants also may not need to be massaged, as the textured exterior helps the implants stay in place.
